good things in life may not always come in pairs, but there are some that do much better when in the right company.
strap yourself in because things may get a little crazy.
kimchi and apricot jam
Potter’s caramelised onion crackers with mummahara dip
dried apricots opened up like a pita and stuffed with a single walnut
Peanut M&M’s (best when blue) and Ruffles chips (1:1 ratio)
plantain chips and cookie dough ice cream
veggie dumplings and pomegranate seeds
pizza crust dipped in whatever is leftover on your plate (or your neighbours)
vanilla milkshakes with a dash of pepper
avocado and horseradish (on toast)
a brazil nut tucked into a juicy fig
an egg yolk drooling over just about anything
smoked salt and smoked paprika (like attracts like no?)
Joy’s thousand-layer pancake dipped in leftover sauce from dan dan noodles
roasted parsley and strawberries
carrot sticks and peanut butter (crunchy)
Knusperflak Ritter Sport with smoked salt
just a plain tortilla warmed up on a pan (the heat is the addition here)
baked capers (ditto)
tequila and lollipops
an egg fried in anchovy oil
味道楽 Furikake on roasted vegetables
kale chips dipped in greek yogurt (plain)
kumquats and sardines
i like to fill my meals with as many Ratatouille moments as possible. hence my meals end up looking like a smorgasbord of sorts:
yes, it may take me a few trips too many from the kitchen to the dining table (i’m investing in a tray), but i’d do anything to give myself ample opportunity to compose a new culinary song each time i sit down to eat.
granted, not every combination is a hit (beans and cheesy pasta…) but that’s what makes it evermore exciting when i stumble upon two flavours that should not have ever met, yet somehow fall in love at first sight.
like a culinary Romeo and Juliet, the tension is the missing ingredient that makes the experience that much better.
